Speakeasies

During the Prohibition, saloons and taverns were banned/closed. This did not stop bars from opening undercover. The new locations for taverns included basements, attics, upper floors, or even disguised businesses such as cafes and soda shops.  Speakeasies were born, and their name came from the necessity to "speak easy" or whisper inside. They even required passwords to enter theses secret taverns. Speakeasies were a place for men and some women to get things off their mind and consume alcohol during the Prohibiton

Fact: At one point during the 1920's, there were over 100,000 Speakeasies in New York City

Speakeasies  were like normal taverns on the inside
